Education Assessment
01
What is an Education Assessment used for?
-
Assessment of learning (reading, writing, maths) when there are concerns about progress but 6 months of intervention has not been completed.
-
Re-assessment for students who already have an identified Specific Learning Difference. This usually done either to monitor their progress, to ensure appropriate accommodations, or to apply for HSC provisions.
02
How is an Education Assessment different from an assessment for Specific Learning Differences (Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, or Dyscalculia?)
-
While an education assessment is part of the assessment for Specific Learning Differences, it is not enough on it's own for a diagnosis.
-
The assessment for Specific Learning Differences also includes a cognitive assessment to ensure the difficulties are not better explained by an intellectual disability and to understand how your child's thinking skills may be impacting their learning.
03
I'm apply for exam provisions for the HSC or university, what else should I know?
-
For HSC provisions, you will need to submit your paperwork to NESA, usually by the end of term 1.
-
We recommend re-assessment in Term 3 or 4 the year before to ensure there is adequate time to complete the testing, report, and paperwork.
-
We are happy to assist with completing forms for NESA and universities.
